Exploring Questions and Solving Problems with Sound
In this NASA Quickbits video, learners in grades K-2 will develop a hypothesis for how sound travels. Students will experiment and change variables of different types and sizes of string and cups to determine the best method for transmitting sound on a string-cup phone. Learners will be able to explain how sound travels and demonstrate how the transmission of sound waves is affected by different materials.

Planning an Investigation to Solve an Engineering Problem
Learn about Planning and Conducting Research where students at home or at school can learn about planning and posing research problems to answer questions or test solutions, which leads to include research that controls variables and provides evidence to support explanations or design solutions. Students will make predictions about what will happen if changes to a variable are made and create two different models of the same object to determine which one best meets the success criteria. will work on making the design of the exploration vehicle better by changing a variable, in this case, the shape of the wheels.

Constructing a Model to Solve a Landing Problem
NGSS Disciplinary Core Idea OR NGSS Engineering and Science Practice: S&E Practice Developing and Using Models: A practice of both science and engineering is to use and construct models as helpful tools for representing ideas and explanations. These tools include diagrams, drawings, physical replicas, mathematical representations, analogies, and computer simulations.
Summary: NASA is going back to the Moon and we need your help! In this NASA Quickbits video, learners will develop explore the importance of developing and using models. Utilizing the engineering design process, learners will use simple materials to design and build a shock-absorbing system that will protect two “astronauts” when they land on the moon.
